Ellen Dahl is a visual artist, researcher, and educator originally from the Arctic north of Norway. She now lives and works on Gadigal Country (Sydney), Australia. Dahl’s practice is rooted in working with and around the landscape, with photography’s intrinsic role in shaping how we see and feel the world underpinning her projects. She continually explores the expanded field of the photographic medium and its potential to assemble new forms of ecological meaning and geological imagination. Her work also examines the medium’s relationship to time, which she explores across photography, video and still-motion, sound, and installation.
Dahl is the recipient of the prestigious biannual MAMA National Photography Prize (2024). She holds a Master of Fine Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney (2015), where she is a sessional lecturer in Screen Arts, and a PhD from the School of Creative Arts and Media, University of Tasmania (2024).
